LONDON YOUTH CHAMPS 2010

Youth swimmers from the London Borough of Redbridge participated in this years London Youth Championships, held at Crystal Palace.  There were great individual and team performances from all.

 

Once again, the Boroughs fly swimmers dominated the finals. In the 200m, Chris Inch came first and Ben Hollis 3rd.  Ivan Georgiev came 2nd in the 15/16 age group.  In the 100m event, Chris finished 4th, Ben 6th and Dean Smith 7th.  Ivan was 8th in the lower age group, Craig Moate 1st in the disability category).  In the 50m event, Dean finished 3rd, Ben 4th and Chris Stamp 6th.

The girls started the weekend off well in the 400m free.  Jessica Lambert swam to a 3 sec PB, Johanna Lindblom achieved a 7 sec PB and Emily Cole 2 sec PB (finished 6th 14/15 age group).  Craig Moate achieved a 2 sec PPB in the 400IM and Charlie Dentith finished 6th overall.  Ivan Georgiev set a long course PB.  Adam Gillard was the only swimmer in the 200 back.  He achieved a 6 sec PB.  IN the girls 100 fly, Sophie Copper was just outside of her PB, as was Emily Cole and Kelsey Richards.  Both Kelsey and Emily made the finals finishing 8th & 7th.  In the mens 100 free Craig Moate was 0.5 outside his PB as was Chris Stamp.  Dean Smith and Ben made the finals.  Dean finished 6th and Ben 8th, in a best time).  Jess Lambert achieved a best time in the 50 breast.  In the men’s event Dean Smith achieved a PB finishing 5th in the final. 

Saturday afternoon was also very successful.  Johanna Lindblom set a 4 sec PB in the 200 IM as did Jess Lambert.  Sophie Copper once again equalled her long course PB.  IN the men’s event, Craig Moate equalled his PB and Adam Gillard achieved a 2 sec PB.  Charlie Dentith finished 3rd in his age with a 2 sec PB but was 0.1 sec outside of the national time.  Chris Inch equalled his PB and came 5th in the final.  Jonathan Worby competed in the 1500 and set a best time.  The boys 4x100 & 200 free relays finished 3rd and 5th in the 4X100 medley (Ivan, Charlie, Ben and Chris Inch).  In the girls 200 fly, Sadie Lucas set a 9 sec PB and finished 7th in the final.  Dean Smith reached the final for the 100 back and finished 7th. In the mens 200 free, Craig achieved a seasons best as did Jonathan Worby. Charlie Denith came 5th with a 1 sec PB – only 0.5 outside the national time.  Ben Hollis was 6th and Chris Inch 2nd, equalling his best time.  Jess Lambert was just outside of her PB in the 100 breast, but set a best time through the 50m mark.  IN the 50m fly, Sadie Lucas set a 1 sec PB as did Emily Cole.  Jessica was just outside of her best time.  The final event on Saturday was the mnes 50 free.  Craig Moate set a season’s best.  Ivan Georgiev, Ben Hollis and Ryan Smith all achieved best times

Sunday started off really well with Jon Worby setting a PB in the 400 free, Chris Inch (2nd) and Charlie (3rd) equalling their PBs and Craig, setting a season’s best. In the 200 free, Emily Cole finished 6th in the final equalling her best time.  Johanna swam outside of her PB but unfortunately withdrew due to illness.  Mens 100 breast, Ryan Smith achieved a 2 sec PB, just missing out on a final position.  The girls 100 back saw some good swims, Kelsey Richards and Jessica both achieved PBs.  Sophie Copper was just 1 sec outside.  In the girls 50 free, Jessica achieved a best time - Johanna and Emily were just outside. 

Sunday afternoon was the last session.  Jessica set a PB in the 200 back to qualify for the final – finishing 7th.  Men’s 200 breast saw Charlie achieve a 2 sec PB, finishing 3rd and just outside of his NQT.  Emily Cole equalled her best time finish 8th in the 100 free and Kelsey finished just outside of her best time. Jess Lambert swam just outside of her best in the 50m back, just 1 place outside of the final.  In the men’s 50 breast, Ryan and Dean Smith both achieved best times.  Jonathan Worby finished off the weekend with a great 800m free, finishing 5th overall
